Better than Wellingtons

My seven-league boots
have stacked heels
for long journeys
on beaten paths
and forked roads.
Fashioned from selkie pelts
they repel water snow salt
also mud
and blood.
Obstacles
whether foe or fallen apple
are kicked curbside
or crushed beneath
my heels.
A trail of shiny red skin
shows where I’ve been.
