Editorial (Winter 2016/2017)

Well, 2016 was a hell of a year. Emphasis on the “hell”. One of your editors endured Brexit, and the other endured Trump’s “election” (and is still fervently hoping that can be averted). So many of our favorite artists died this year; we were especially crushed at the losses of David Bowie and Leonard Cohen.

But when times get tough, the tough make art, and that’s what we’ve been doing, and what the poets in this issue have been doing. We bring you what we hope you’ve come to expect from Liminality: journeys and shapeshifters and stark emotion, meditative moments and faerie revels and scraps of whimsy and wistfulness, shot through with sheer determination. We can’t get the end of the first poem of this issue out of our heads. We hope it’ll resonate with you as well as we journey into the new year.

Love, hope, defiance, and a solstice fire,

your editrices,

Shira and Mattie

Shira’s won the Rhysling Award, Mattie’s won the Dwarf Stars Award, and they both write fiction, too.

Together they fight crime, entropy, and cynicism.
